Sugar Free Kids

Sugar Free Kids, is a statewide coalition established in 2014, with a diverse group of lead partners at its core: The Maryland State Medical Society (MedChi), The Horizon Foundation, the American Heart Association, and the NAACP.  We are the state’s foremost advocate for childhood obesity prevention.

Our mission is to reverse the trend of childhood obesity in this state by educating Marylanders about the childhood obesity epidemic and the role sugary drinks play in this crisis, in order to raise awareness, build a strong, diverse coalition, and affect legislative change.

We make the healthy choice the easy choice, ensuring that Maryland’s kids live long, healthy lives.

The Girl Scouts has partnered with Nestle to create cookie-flavored drinks like Thin Mint chocolate milk.  One 1-cup serving contains nearly 3x the daily limit of sugar for children.  One bottle (the only purchase size) contains 2 servings, or 6x the daily limit of sugar for children.

Sugar Free Kids has signed this petition to urge Girl Scouts to end its partnership with Nestle.  "An organization whose mission is to support healthy, developing girls has no place promoting a sugar-loaded drink, a product proven to be slowly killing this generation with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and a growing list of related chronic illnesses. Girl Scouts should return to promoting its excellent mission and core values, and drop this damaging partnership.  The lives of our girls depend on it."  Please consider signing this petition today.
