Advancing Physician Leadership in Artificial (Augmented) Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) has transitioned from a futuristic concept to a present-day reality, rapidly transforming how physicians deliver care, from supporting clinical decision-making to personalizing treatment plans and beyond. At MedChi, we believe it is essential for physicians to actively engage in shaping the development, deployment, and regulation of AI tools.

To that end, we are proud to announce the launch of the MedChi Artificial Intelligence Task Force, a new initiative dedicated to ensuring Maryland physicians understand the evolving conversation around the use of AI in healthcare. The Task Force will discuss emerging technologies, their clinical, regulatory, and ethical implications, and help position Maryland physicians as leaders in the responsible adoption of AI.

The Perfect Storm: Balancing Medical AI Innovation with the Reality of 2026 Cyber Threats - Featuring Eric Wargotz, MD, Padmini Ranasinghe, MD and Renee Bovelle MD.

In this MedChi CME session, we explore one of the most urgent issues facing physicians today: how to harness the power of rapidly advancing medical AI while defending against the most sophisticated cyber threats the healthcare sector has ever seen.

This program breaks down:

  • The explosion of clinical AI tools — from triage and diagnostics to care management and predictive analytics.
  • The rising cyber threat landscape — ransomware attacks, breached third-party systems, compromised AI models, and growing vulnerabilities tied to cloud-based tools.
  • Why AI adoption widens the attack surface — and how malicious actors are beginning to target AI workflows directly.
  • Emerging regulatory tension — innovation is moving faster than cybersecurity standards, creating liability concerns for physicians, practices, hospitals, and vendors.
  • Practical steps for physicians and practices — governance, vendor vetting, incident-response planning, and safe integration of AI into clinical operations.
