Joint Providership Overview
Joint Providership involves accredited and non-accredited organizations collaborating to develop and present Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities. MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society, mission.
Responsibilities
MedChi (Accredited Sponsor):
- Ensures ACCME Criteria are met.
- Remains integrally involved in planning and implementing CME activities.
- Commits to CME that is independently conceived, evidence-based, clinically relevant, valid, transparent, and free of bias or commercial influence.
Non-Accredited Joint Provider:
- Includes MedChi in planning and implementation.
- Compliant with policies and procedures outlined in the application.
- Provides all necessary information included in providership process (extensive paperwork review alone is insufficient for MedChi’s involvement).
Submission Timeline:
- Applications must be received within 8 weeks from the start of the activity.
CME Providership Process - Overview
Step 1 – CME Planning Form Application for AMA/PRA Credit
Once the Application is approved-- Disclosure Form, Presenter Guarantee, and Compliance Agreement should be submitted. After completing Step 1, you may receive a request for more information, or you will be notified to proceed to Step 2. An invoice for the Application Fee will be provided upon submission. The CME Department will not review your application until the application fee is paid. If the fee is waived, this does not apply.

*Note: Be prepared for possible delays in application approval, often due to insufficient information.
Step 2 – Assemble the Activity
Submit documents related to the activity just before it begins. Your activity cannot proceed without written approval from MedChi. MedChi will not issue approval without all Step 2 paperwork. This ensures compliance with ACCME guidelines and allows MedChi to monitor progress and provide input.
Upon completion, you will receive an invoice for the activity fee. CME credits will not be issued until this fee is paid.
Step 3 – After the Activity
Submit documents to close out the activity within 60 business days after completion. CME certificates will not be issued until Step 3 is complete. Inform learners that it can take up to 60 days to receive CME or Completion certificates. CME credit will not be issued until all Step 3 documents are received and approved.
