Joint Sponsorships
Joint sponsorship is a situation in which an accredited and a non-accredited organization work cooperatively to develop and present a CME activity. MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society, working through the Committee on Scientific Activity (COSA), undertakes joint sponsorships at its own discretion and when consistent with its stated mission.
As the accredited sponsor in a joint sponsorship situation, it is MedChi’s responsibility to ensure that the Criteria of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) are met by becoming and remaining integrally involved in the planning and implementation of the CME activity. It is the responsibility of the non-accredited joint sponsor to include MedChi in the planning and implementation of the CME activity by complying with the policies and procedures outlined in the application. It should be emphasized that paper review, no matter how extensive the paperwork, is not considered by COSA to be adequate involvement on the part of MedChi’s Department of CME.
MedChi is committed to CME that is independently conceived and planned, evidence-based, clinically relevant to all learners, valid in content, transparent and free of bias or commercial influence, and grounded in the principles of adult learning.
